How has TMC enabled the progression of professional skills?

Julia joined our team as a Social Impact Account Executive in April 2022, having achieved a 1st class degree in Business Management and Psychology.

“Since joining TMC I have been able to take ownership of multiple projects, gaining an insight into what is required to manage different types of tasks and how to overcome challenges. I have developed my time management skills and team-working, while also undertaking training to develop my knowledge of sustainability and CSR.”

The professional development of all members of the team is of great importance at TMC. It is one of the key benefits of starting strategic communications jobs – particularly as a graduate. As your career and skills evolve, your role is fluid enough to contribute and work on a variety of campaigns and projects to build your wealth of knowledge from the ground, up.

Confidence is a trait that comes naturally to some people. However, for many it is something that is developed throughout your professional career as you refine your craft in real, working scenarios.

Junior Designers Lydia and Gina have both joined the TMC Studio during 2022, as recent graduates. Both have witnessed a huge shift in their confidence levels since joining the team.

“Since joining TMC in May 2022, I have noticed an incredible change in myself, and I can only put this down to the culture we have here at TMC. With the supportive teams around me, I have been able to learn a lot – not just technically – but also mentally when it comes to my confidence. This reassurance has certainly been reflected by the team; I have learned so much in the space of 6 months that I could never have learned through education alone.” – Lydia

For any graduates looking to dive into their first role post-study, having a supportive and encouraging network is critical to integration and ongoing success.

“I now feel more confident being involved and valued in large projects, and feel so much more comfortable on the suite of applications used to create artwork.” – Gina

Confidence is something that won’t necessarily come over night. Empowerment is something that happens organically as you become more comfortable with the technical requirements of your role.

Charlie, an Account Manager within our Client Services team has been with TMC for just under two years. One of the founding members of Team #FutureVision, he has seen first-hand the impact the onboarding initiatives have had on new team members.

“The project began as a way to facilitate an easier integration into a company from your degree. Consequently, the number of graduates has grown significantly in recent months. I am sure I speak for us all, when I say we have all felt included and involved. #FutureVision has truly been integrated into TMC’s objectives.” – Charlie

We are social creatures. Collaboration with likeminded team members who have shared similar experiences can create authentic positive impact. It can help to ease any first week nerves and fast-track your integration.

TMC’s point of difference lies in our open door policy. All ideas are heard and acknowledged. This extends to the initiatives suggested by the #FutureVision team, when presented to the Senior Management. Our success lies in our collaboration, commitment and care.

Which initiatives have been led by #FutureVision over the last year?

At it’s core, TMC is motivated by a desire to Create Positive Impact. Team #FutureVision exists to nurture emerging talent and have a lasting positive impact on career pathways from an early stage.

Since it’s inception in early 2022, the team has engaged in multiple initiatives and participated in many events. Joining graduate interview panels, exhibiting at regional careers fairs and strategic collaborations with the Cheshire and Warrington Pledge – there’s been plenty to contribute to.

Marketing Executive Alex has been with TMC for just over a year, as part of our multi-disciplinary Marketing department.

“Perhaps our biggest success was the #FutureVision competition that we ran at Congleton High School’s careers fair. Following the results of this competition, we welcomed Sixth Form Student Sophia for a work experience placement. Her enthusiasm to learn saw TMC ask her back a further three times over the year!” – Alex

The #FutureVision competition has provided TMC with the opportunity to impart advice and experience, assisting with professional development.

The competition was devised to gain insight into the career aspirations of young people and how TMC can have a beneficial impact on their future. It places TMC in the privileged position of being able to recruit talent within our own communities. We have a route to leave a positive impact on the local economy by providing robust and consistent career paths.

What are the #FutureVision team’s ambitions over the next 12 months?

The journey our team has been on over the course of the last year, has highlighted the difference we can make. The growth in the number of bright, talented individuals in the team has further expanded the strategic communications services we can offer our clients.

Account Executives Isis and George have both joined our team this year, with a Masters in Linguistics and a Degree in Biomedical Science, respectively. They have both fully embraced the positive impact TMC can have on the community.

“I think there are some great ideas in the pipeline, for ways that the #FutureVision team can participate in outreach initiatives and work with young people in our community. We can act as a source of information about the wide variety of strategic communications jobs available – particularly for creative individuals.” – Isis

“The goal over the next year will not only to be expand and help new starters integrate into TMC, but also to give back the community by collaborating with local schools to provide advice and resources for their early careers departments.” – George

Exploring alternative pathways to careers in strategic communications

There are multiple pathways that can be followed to enter strategic communications jobs. From early careers roles through to our own Directors, our diverse mix of talent is welcoming of individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

Junior Marketing Executive Cerys, completed a Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship prior to joining TMC.

“University isn’t always for everyone, though it sometimes feels like the only way to begin a creative career. For those who find themselves looking to make their first step into the industry through a practical learning style, an apprenticeship can offer so much more.

As I took this route prior to joining TMC, I became comfortable within a creative environment early on in my career. First-hand training from the employer ensures new tasks are taught in-person before being required to carry them out alone. It enables quick adoption of key industry skills, techniques and channels – building desirable experience for future organisations.” – Cerys
