This week, I sat down with Kate Lightfoot, our in-house videographer, for a behind-the-scenes look at how we transform complex briefs into compelling stories, particularly when working within the world of healthcare marketing.
From Brief to Vision: Shaping the Story
Every project begins with a clear client brief. This is where we immerse ourselves in our client’s world, understanding their goals, audiences, and measures of success.
From there, our team conducts in-depth research: analysing competitors, exploring market trends, and reviewing existing content to identify opportunities to create an impact.
This insight feeds into our concept document, where we develop everything from mood boards to establish look and feel, shot lists to plan coverage and three distinct creative routes that we would take in order to bring the project to life.
We then present our vision back to the client, refining our approach until everyone’s aligned.

Meticulous Planning, Flawless Execution
Once the concept is signed off, we move into pre-production, storyboarding, scheduling, and crafting a detailed shot list to make sure we maximise every filming day.
Shoot days are carefully planned but never restrictive. We often conduct up to ten interviews in a single day, which means efficiency is key.
Equally important is creating a comfortable space for everyone on set. We use conversation, humour, and plenty of reassurance to help people relax on camera.

Filming in Sensitive Healthcare Environments
Some of our most rewarding, and complex projects are for clients in the healthcare sector. Filming in hospitals, clinics, and specialist facilities demands extra layers of planning, care, and sensitivity.
We work closely with client teams and clinical staff to ensure that we have taken the necessary precautions into account ahead of the shoot:
- Respect for patient privacy and operational protocols
- Securing permissions in advance
- Keep a minimal footprint on site
In these environments, storytelling becomes deeply personal. It’s not just about showcasing technology or facilities, it’s about humanising innovation.
For example, when filming the rollout of new medical equipment, we capture the human impact, this includes interviews with clinicians, patient stories, and the small details that bring its purpose to life.


The Art of Emotional Storytelling
Emotional storytelling is an art that needs to be perfect, especially when it comes to creating campaigns for medical clients. Healthcare communications sit at the intersection of information and empathy. Facts and accuracy matter, but so does connection.
Our approach focuses on balancing clarity with emotional resonance by:
- Featuring real clinicians and patients to tell authentic stories
- Highlighting personal experiences and outcomes, not just products
- Using visual storytelling techniques from lighting and framing to colour grading, to match brand guidelines while keeping the tone warm and relatable
