TMC Strategic Communications

Committed to supporting businesses within the region, Cheshire West and Cheshire (CWaC) Council regularly spearhead programmes to strengthen the economies within their constituent communities.

Having been granted additional resources through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), CWaC’s ‘Let’s Talk Business’ division appointed TMC to collaborate on developing a strategy for how to best leverage the funds to provide support to as many businesses as possible.

It was acknowledged that by pooling the funding and investing into one robust scheme to help all, CWaC could maximise support across a larger number of small businesses’. With an aim to fulfil the needs of everyone within the targeted audience, an initial outline considered how to provide valuable information to those looking to develop and drive their business. This would include guidance on marketing, accounting, management, and social impact. The project’s main objective was to help businesses develop and grow – providing autonomy and putting the power back into the hands of the business owners.

Exploring the initial idea of ‘business, your way’; initial concepts settled on the idea of personalised insights that were built around interactive elements designed to engage the user. Knowing that the insights needed to be ‘bitesize’ and ‘easily digestible’, Business Tapas was chosen as the master brand.

Our solution

Within the ‘Business Tapas’ digital hub, users would experience a platform built to resemble the user interface of social media platforms. Understanding engagement best practice, our multi-departmental project team developed a framework that would extract and utilise elements from apps such as LinkedIn, TikTok, and Instagram. Here, practical signposting would be displayed in a post format and could be liked, and later saved to a user’s personal dashboard.

Once the initial concept was devised, a series of networks were created by our Digital and Design teams – mapping out multiple ideal user journeys, from clicking through posts to looking for more information surrounding the campaign. We ensured to test multiple user paths, in order to adopt the best navigation approach and increase user retention.

As the project aims to appeal to all demographics and age ranges, branding, themes and colour palettes needed to reflect the diverse audience. Logo conception considered elements of the original ‘Let’s Talk Business’ umbrella brand, whilst introducing contemporary new shapes and colours.

The final designs reflect the project’s exciting and innovative nature, whilst retaining a professional tone – ensuring the credibility and reliability of the platform is clearly communicated to the users.

A credible, free resource

Each ‘post’ within the platform represented a different article, focusing on specific topics aimed at facilitating business growth. Marketing, business management, financing, and social impact were among the key focus areas, all highly relevant to current trends and innovations. To populate these articles with information from credible sources, our in-house Marketing, Studio, Social Impact, HR, Accounts, and Finance experts provided insights and developed the pieces. This would provide businesses with controlled access to reliable professional resources.

Throughout the development, digital accessibility and responsivity were considered at all stages, to reflect the all-encompassing support CWaC provides to the community. Further to this, CWaC and TMC were keen to emphasise that the educational resources should be free to all users, regardless of their budget or business size. The aim was to ensure the audience understand they can advance their education without hidden costs or payments.

Once tested across multiple teams, ‘Business Tapas’ was launched in September 2023, and as we enter this new stage of the campaign, CWaC and TMC look to launch an omni-channel marketing campaign to elevate awareness and uptake.

TMC collaborate with non-profit organisations that are looking to truly create positive impact, aligning values to develop outstanding initiatives for a better community.
