Industry Launch - Strategic Support

Helping Edinburgh Biosciences introduce its groundbreaking cataract treatment through strategic messaging, event presence and visual storytelling.

Edinburgh Biosciences, a pioneering biotechnology organisation, has developed the world’s first non-invasive treatment designed to reverse cataracts, offering a potential alternative to traditional cataract surgery.

Following earlier collaboration on brand development, TMC partnered with the team to support their presence at 100% Optical, the UK’s leading annual event for optical professionals. The objective was to communicate the significance of this scientific breakthrough clearly and credibly within a busy exhibition environment.

Working closely with the client, TMC provided strategic communications support spanning messaging, event materials, booth design input, and a large-scale animation designed to visually bring the science behind the innovation to life.

The Brief

With a complex scientific story and a high-profile industry event approaching, Edinburgh Biosciences needed a clear and cohesive way to present their innovation to clinicians, researchers and potential partners.

TMC worked with the client to shape how the story of the technology would be communicated across multiple touchpoints at the exhibition. This included refining key messages, developing supporting visual assets and ensuring that all materials aligned with the brand positioning previously developed.

A central component of the event presence was a large-scale animated film designed to capture attention on the stand and explain the underlying biological processes behind the treatment to the specialist audience. Alongside this, TMC supported the wider event communications through design assets and visual elements that reinforced the brand and scientific narrative.

To deliver the project, TMC brought together a multidisciplinary creative team spanning 2D motion design, 3D design and brand design, collaborating to ensure the animation reflected both the science and the brand.

The Process

The animation was produced using Cavalry, an emerging motion graphics platform known for its procedural animation capabilities and efficient end-to-end workflow. Its fast viewport rendering allowed the team to iterate quickly, enabling design and animation to evolve together while maintaining speed and flexibility throughout production. This allowed the team to seamlessly integrate 3D assets and dynamic motion graphics, creating a cohesive and impactful animation ready for a large event audience.

For the 3D elements, the team used Maya and Blender to develop both early visual concepts and more detailed rendered scenes. This included building bespoke 3D assets from the ground up to represent protein simulations, alongside processing client-supplied CAD files to create accurate, photorealistic product visualisations.

As the project progressed, content and messaging continued to evolve through client feedback. To stay adaptable and minimise re-rendering time, the team refined the animation’s pacing in Adobe Premiere Pro, carefully adjusting timing to ensure the information remained clear and easy to follow without extending the overall runtime unnecessarily.

The Result

The final animation formed a central feature of the brand’s presence at 100% Optical, helping attract attention and explain the science behind the treatment in a clear and engaging way.

Combined with the wider messaging and design support provided for the exhibition presence, the work helped position the organisation as an innovative and credible player within the ophthalmology sector.

By translating complex biological processes into clear and engaging visuals, the animation helped make highly technical information more accessible for a specialist audience.
